Ladu Samrat: A Foodie’s Guide to the Iconic Maharashtrian Delicacies
Ladu Samrat is a must-visit spot in Mumbai for Maharashtrian delicacies, but its menu goes beyond that. Alongside their iconic dishes, you’ll also find South Indian delights and Mumbai specials like Pav Bhaji and grilled sandwiches. As someone who frequently has orders breakfast from here—thanks to my masi living nearby—I’ve tried several dishes from Ladu Samrat and here’s my take on them. In this Ladu Samrat review, I’ll share my take on their flavors, quality, and must-try items.

1. Ladu Samrat Vada Pav
Being a die-hard fan of both Vada Pav and Pav Bhaji, I had to start my meal with this classic. The vada here is humongous, served with coconut chutney and sukhi garlic chutney. The coconut chutney, in particular, reminded me of the famous Datt Vada Pav we enjoy on highways. The potato filling inside the vada was simple yet incredibly flavorful.
The best part? They also serve Jain Vada Pav—a rarity in Mumbai. While Ladu Samrat might not be the ideal spot if you’re searching for the best vada pav spot in Mumbai, it is unquestionably the place to go for the best Jain Vada Pav in the Mumbai. 2. Ladu Samrat Misal Pav Review
The second dish I tried was Misal Pav, and it was an absolute delight. Misal Pav is one of the most iconic dishes of Maharashtra, loved for its spicy, tangy, and flavorful taste. What makes Ladu Samrat’s version stand out is the perfect balance of flavors without being overwhelmingly spicy. While some places serve misal that is too fiery to handle, this one is just right—allowing you to enjoy every spoonful without feeling the heat overpowering the taste. If you enjoy authentic Misal Pav, Ladu Samrat won’t disappoint. Whether you’re a spice lover or someone who prefers milder flavors, their misal is a great choice as it caters to all taste preferences. It’s a must-try if you’re visiting Ladu Samrat for the first time!
Note: The pav is not served with the misal by default, so make sure to order it separately!

3. Thalipeeth at Ladu Samrat
This was my first time trying Thalipeeth, and I didn’t know what to expect. It turned out to be a delicious, savory small bhakri, served with makhan (butter) and sukhi garlic chutney. Thalipeeth is made using a combination of different flours, including jowar, bajra, and besan, along with spices and grated vegetables. The one at Ladu Samrat had a slightly crispy outer layer with a soft inside, making it a wholesome and filling dish. Definitely worth a try!

4. Ladu Samrat Kothimbir Vadi Review
While I’ve had a Mexican-inspired version of Kothimbir Vadi at Taco & Co. (mentioned in my Bandra Food Guide), this was my first time trying the traditional version. It’s a simple, square-shaped savory snack made with cilantro (kothmir), besan, and basic spices. The vadis were crispy on the outside, soft inside, and packed with a wonderful herby flavor. A great tea-time snack that pairs well with chai or buttermilk!
I was so full that I had to parcel my Kothimbir Vadi and tried them at home. They tasted just as amazing even after a few hours!

5. Sabudana Vada from Ladu Samrat
While I usually dislike Sabudana Vada unless it’s made by my maa, I still recommend giving it a try at Ladu Samrat—they’re known to be delicious. Sabudana Vada is a popular fasting snack in Maharashtra, made with sago pearls, mashed potatoes, roasted peanuts, and mild spices. When fried, it develops a crispy golden crust with a soft, melt-in-the-mouth inside. If you love sabudana-based dishes, this is a must-try!
I love eating Sabudana Vada with coconut chutney and tomoto sause. Do try this combination and let me know your thoughts in comment section!
