8 Overhyped Overrated Cafes in Bandra: Not Worth Your Money

Bandra is known for its vibrant cafe culture, attracting coffee lovers, foodies, and Instagram enthusiasts. While some cafes live up to the hype, others are overrated, overpriced, and simply not worth it. If you’re tired of spending your hard-earned money on places that prioritize aesthetics over quality, this blog is for you. Based on firsthand experiences, here’s a list of overhyped cafes in Bandra that you might want to skip!
What Makes a Cafe Overhyped?
Before diving into the list, let’s understand what qualifies a cafe as “overhyped.”
- Expensive yet disappointing food – High prices but average or below-average taste.
- Long waiting times – A one-hour wait for a mediocre experience? No thanks.
- More Instagrammable than edible – Pretty interiors but terrible food.
- Bad service – Rude or inattentive staff can ruin the experience.
- Portion sizes vs. price – Paying a premium for tiny portions.
Now, let’s uncover the truth about Bandra’s most overhyped cafes.
1. Subko
Ambience & Vibe:
Subko has a modern, minimalist design with neutral tones and an aesthetic that’s perfect for Instagram. However, the vibe is just about okay—nothing extraordinary. It gets crowded easily, and despite being a cafe, you end up waiting for 30 minutes even on an off-day.
Food & Drinks:
I tried the Harissa Grilled Cheese and the Veggie Stack Sandwich. Both were just okay—nothing mind-blowing. The flavors were pretty average, and for the price, I expected better quality.
Service:
The servers seemed busy in their own world rather than attending to customers. I had to call them multiple times just to get my order placed.
Pricing:
For sandwiches priced at around ₹450, the portions were not satisfying.
Verdict:
A one-time visit at best. Good for a casual meal, but definitely not worth the hype.
Location:
Ground Floor, Mary Lodge, 21A, Chapel Rd, next to Saba Heritage building, Ranwar, Bandra West, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400050, India.
2. Vanilla Miel Cafe, Pali Village
Ambience & Vibe:
The cafe has a warm, cozy vibe with elegant decor. The owners are polite and welcoming.
Food & Drinks:
We ordered the Smashed Avocado Toast and Kimchi Cheese Hokkaido Toasties. The portion size was disappointingly small, and the flavors were quite bland for the price tag. If you’re looking for the best avocado toast in Mumbai, there are definitely better options.
In beverages, I tried their Hot Chocolate and a Dessert Coffee (Vanilla flavor). Both were overly sweet, which overpowered any real flavors of coffee or chocolate.
Service:
Decent service, though it was slow during peak hours.
Pricing:
₹450 per sandwich and ₹300+ for a coffee—definitely overpriced for what you get.
Verdict:
Not a must-visit. There are better cafes in Bandra that offer better food and value for money.
Location:
18A, 16th Rd, Pali Village, Bandra West, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400050, India
3. Greenr Cafe
Ambience & Vibe:
A vegan cafe with a very cool, rustic feel. The dim lights and earthy interiors create a soothing atmosphere.
Food & Drinks:
Tried the Venice Green Goddess Pizza—there was literally no salt in it. For a pizza that looked great, the taste was extremely bland.
Service:
The staff was helpful, but food preparation took longer than expected.
Pricing:
₹600 for a pizza that lacks seasoning? Not justified. Click to check: Best Pizzas in Mumbai
Verdict:
If you’re into vegan food and just want a quiet place, maybe. Otherwise, skip it.
Location:
Greenr, 57/116, Drego House, Pali Naka, Dr Ambedkar Rd, Bandra West, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400050, India
4. Rituals – Daily Coffee
Ambience & Vibe:
A simple cafe with no real ‘wow’ factor in terms of aesthetics or vibe.
Food & Drinks:
I went here for their famous Matcha Frappe, but it was nothing special—just a green-colored drink with a weird aftertaste. It cost around ₹400 and was totally not worth it.
Service:
Indifferent staff, slow service.
Pricing:
Overpriced for the quality.
Verdict:
Avoid unless you absolutely love matcha and don’t mind an overpriced, average experience. I will definitely try matcha in Japan, which is on my bucket list. I also have my things to get from Japan, like my shopping guide for Japan. If you have any suggestions on what I should get from Japan, comment down below!
Location:
Dr Ambedkar Rd, Pali Market, Pali Hill, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400050, India
5. Chantilly Cafe
Ambience & Vibe:
The decor is charming, and the seating is comfortable. However, the long waiting time ruins the experience.
Food & Drinks:
I tried their Hot Chocolate, Nutella Cheesecake, Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake, and Eggless Chocolate Chip Cookies with Sundae. Everything was actually quite good, but the wait time was ridiculous.
Service:
Good, but the long queue is a major downside.
Pricing:
Decent pricing for desserts, but the experience isn’t worth waiting over an hour.
Verdict:
Good food but overhyped. If you have to wait more than 30 minutes, skip it. Good food but overhyped. If you have to wait more than 30 minutes, skip it. Best desserts in Mumbai? Maybe, but only if there’s no queue.
Location:
Chantilly, Shop no. 2, Darvesh Royale Building, Perry Road, Turner Rd, opposite Kotak Mahindra Bank, Junction, Bandra West, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400050, India
6. Veronica’s Cafe, Bandra
Ambience & Vibe:
The place lacks a clear identity—it’s neither a proper restaurant nor a cafe.
Food & Drinks:
I tried their Veronika’s Special Cold Coffee, and it was disappointing. They have very few vegetarian options, and the food selection is limited to sandwiches and burgers, with most dishes being non-vegetarian.
Service:
The server was over-friendly, which felt uncomfortable.
Pricing:
Not justified for the small menu and average taste.
Verdict:
A confused cafe that tries to do too much but doesn’t excel at anything.
Location:
3R3G+JMX, Waroda Rd, Ranwar, Bandra West, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400050, India
7. Tim Hortons
Ambience & Vibe:
It’s basically Starbucks. The interiors, menu, and pricing are all similar.
Food & Drinks:
I tried the Frozen French Vanilla with Espresso—a good drink, but not worth the hype. Tim Hortons is famous for its donuts, but all of them contain eggs, leaving no vegetarian options.
Service:
Standard cafe service, nothing special.
Pricing:
₹400 for a drink that’s not better than Starbucks? Overpriced.
Verdict:
If you love Starbucks, you might like it. Otherwise, it’s just another overpriced coffee chain.
Location:
Unit no 2 & 3, Ground Level , Supreme Headquarters 14th, &, 33rd Rd, near Link Square Mall, Bandra West, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400050, India
8. Morii Cafe
Ambience & Vibe:
A collaboration with Boojee Cafe, which I personally love, but Morii didn’t impress me. The decor is beautiful, but that’s about it.
Food & Drinks:
I tried their Strawberry Hot Chocolate, and it was honestly bad. For ₹450-₹500, it was not at all worth it.
Service:
Staff was friendly, but the food disappointed me.
Pricing:
Expensive and not justified.
Verdict:
Pretty place, but you can get way better food elsewhere. Next to it, there’s Taj Mahal Tea House, one of my personal favorites, which I’ve covered in my Things to Eat in Bandra blog.
Location:
36/A, Sanatan Pereira Bungalow, St John Baptist Rd, Mount Mary, Bandra West, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400050, India
