Raksha Bandhan Miracle: A Spiritual Experience That Made Me Believe in God

Two years ago, a Raksha Bandhan miracle changed the way I look at faith. Until then, I used to pray for everything—but if someone asked me, “Do you believe in God?” my answer was always, “No. Where is God? What’s the proof?”
I wasn’t against the idea of God. In fact, as a child, I was very close to Ganpati Bappa. I used to feel so much happiness during Ganesh Chaturthi, and I believed that whenever Bappa came home, he brought joy with him. But over time, I drifted. I stopped praying openly. Maybe it was because I looked up to my elder brother – who didn’t believe in divine power. I didn’t consider him a role model, but I respected him and often aligned with his views.
Then came a personal Raksha Bandhan miracle—one small incident that turned out to be a powerful spiritual experience I’ll never forget.
The Day of the Festival
That year on Raksha Bandhan, my elder brother had recently gotten engaged, and we went to his fiancée’s house to celebrate. In our Marwadi tradition, it’s common to exchange gifts and envelopes filled with money.
On our way back, my younger brother and I were playfully comparing how much we received. We both had our envelopes and were teasing each other:
- “I’ll keep your envelope.”
- “No, I’ll take yours!”
In that playful moment, with gifts in hand and our usual sibling banter, I didn’t realise that my envelope had slipped and fallen somewhere. Later that day, when we checked, it was gone. We searched the entire car—twice. Still nothing. The next day was Sunday, and the car went for a wash. I assumed the envelope was lost forever.

The Unexpected Turn
Two days later, I went to my brother’s house to tie rakhi to my cousin brothers. While sitting there, my bade papa started talking to me.
He said, “You and your elder brother are atheists. But you should believe in God. Even if you can’t see Him, He’s always watching.”
I replied with my usual line, “But what’s the proof? Can you see God?”
He gently said, “Just pray. Ask from your heart. You’ll get your answer.”
Something about that moment made me pause. I looked at my younger brother, and silently prayed in front of everyone:
“God, if I get my envelope back, I’ll do prasad at home. And I’ll start believing in You.”
My bade papa, noticing me pray, asked, “What did you just ask for?”
I told him, “I lost my envelope from bhabhi’s house. If I get it back, I’ll do prasad.”
And right at that very moment, my elder brother suddenly said:
“Oh wait—I have your envelope!”
He explained that the night before, he had gone out with his fiancée. She spotted an envelope near the leg space in the car and gave it to my brother. He had completely forgotten about it until now.
I was stunned.
The car had been washed. We had searched it thoroughly. I was 100% sure it was gone. But the moment I prayed—with full intention—it was returned.
That was my Raksha Bandhan miracle.
My Spiritual Experience
That moment wasn’t about the money. It was about what it meant. The timing. The energy. The emotion. I had just prayed with all my heart, and within seconds, it was answered.
That’s when I knew this was a spiritual experience.
It reminded me that even when we stop believing, God doesn’t stop listening.
Since that day, I’ve started to believe again—not because of logic or pressure, but because of something I felt deeply and personally.

My thoughts
I’ll always remember that Raksha Bandhan—not because of what I received, but because of what I rediscovered: faith.
If you’ve ever questioned your belief or waited for a sign, know that sometimes, all it takes is a quiet moment and a true prayer. For me, that day wasn’t just a coincidence. It was a message. A blessing. A Raksha Bandhan miracle—and a life-changing spiritual experience.
Over time, I’ve realised it’s actually easier to live life when you know you’re not alone. It’s easier when you can give your burden—your fears, your failures, your questions—to someone higher. That someone is the divine.
Whether it’s success or failure, sadness or joy, knowing that someone is always with you brings peace—and a quiet confidence that no matter what happens, you’re being guided. You no longer carry the tension of “How will this happen?”
This belief keeps me grounded. Because when good things happen, I don’t say, “I did this.”
I now say, “I don’t know anything—He is the one making it all happen.”
