My Weight Loss Journey: How I Went from 72 kg to 48 kg Without Dieting
I never planned to go on a weight loss journey. It all started unconsciously during COVID-19 when I was at my heaviest—72 kg. Eight months later, I found myself at 48 kg, feeling stronger and healthier than ever. Let me take you through my weight loss journey and how I achieved it without extreme dieting.

Childhood: From Skinny to Chubby
I was born skinny, but things changed in the 4th standard. I vividly remember gaining weight, partly because I was obsessed with mangoes. One day, during a drawing class, I overheard my teacher and a friend’s mom discussing how much weight I had gained and that I needed to lose it. That moment stuck with me.
Secondary School: The Love for Food
As summer vacation ended and mango season was over, my eating habits didn’t change—I kept eating constantly. By the time I reached the 10th standard, I had gained a lot of weight and was officially “the fat kid” in school.
College Life: Accepting My Weight
By college, I had embraced the fact that I was overweight. I loved food, and nothing really bothered me. People often told my mom, “Make sure she doesn’t become like you,” but I brushed it off.
COVID-19: Weight Loss Journey
When the pandemic hit, I was in my first year of senior college. Our semester exams got canceled, and suddenly, I had a lot of free time. That’s when I stumbled upon fitness-related content on YouTube. The first three channels I followed were Ranveer Allahbadia (BeerBiceps), FitTuber, and Alivia D’Andrea. That was the beginning of my weight loss journey.
My Routine: No Diets, Just Better Choices
I didn’t want to lose weight through extreme dieting. Instead, I focused on building a healthy relationship with food.

- Portion Control: I ate everything my mom cooked but in balanced portions.
- Daily Workouts: I exercised every single day. My routine included Zumba dance, HIIT, abs workouts, and Tabata—all from YouTube.
- Cutting Down on Junk: I reduced my intake of maida and sugar, and even today, I don’t consume them regularly.
- Finding Alternatives: Instead of cutting out my favorite foods, I found healthier alternatives.
What Kept Me Motivated?
- Discipline & Perfectionist Attitude: Once I decide on something, I make sure to follow through, no matter what.
- Power of Writing Your Goals: I learned something important: never underestimate the power of writing your goals. Putting my thoughts into words helped me break free from my own limiting beliefs.
- Reward System: I also created a reward chart for myself—every time I lost 5 kg, I celebrated instead of waiting for a big milestone. These small wins reminded me that every step forward mattered, no matter how small.
Lessons Learned from My Weight Loss Journey
- Taking care of yourself requires zero investment.
- Celebrate every milestone—you never know when your last day is.
This weight loss journey wasn’t just about shedding kilos; it was about self-discipline, consistency, confidence and self-love. I didn’t follow strict diets or extreme workouts—just small, sustainable changes that made a big difference. If you’re on a similar path, remember: progress is progress, no matter how small!
My weight loss hasn’t changed how I feel on the inside—I still feel like the same person. But when I take a moment to reflect, I realize that in some ways, I express myself more freely now. For example, on TheirLifestyle.com, we have a Glam Guide section, and I sometimes wonder—would I have ever created this if I were still heavier? Probably not. Back then, I would have convinced myself that my voice didn’t belong in the fashion space, that people wouldn’t take style advice from a plus-sized girl. I would have sabotaged myself before even trying.
Now, I see things differently. It’s not about size; it’s about confidence, passion, and the ability to share what you love. My weight never defined my ability to talk about fashion—but I used to believe it did. And maybe that’s the biggest shift of all.
